UNDERSTANDING R-VALUES
R-value stands for resistance to heat flow the more.
R-value is a measurement use for how much heat a giving material can stop from transferring through it
self. The r-value you have the higher resistance it is to heat.
Does r-value really matters for your insulation?
The answer is yes, r-values is universally used in the industry for a standard measurement for insulation.
Insulation r-value is graded on a number of factors Including thickness, density and what the insulation
is made of.
Regardless of brand or materials if a product has the same r-value it will achieve the same results when installed to your desired application correctly.
When it comes to choosing the right insulation for your home it is not the
thickness of the product or the type of material
that counts, but the r-value.
It is possible to "go over board" when choosing
an insulation R-rating? By going too high
you can trap heat inside your house!
Need help on selecting the correct R-value
for your home?

What Should My Attic Look Like?
Attic Insulation:
When it comes to insulation, in Florida the average recommended level is 14 inch of R30. Attic insulation plays a big part in regulating the overall temperature of your home. Over-insulating your attic too much can cause moisture buildup and will result in mold. We recommend on removing any old insulation if necessary and replacing it with new using the correct measurements.
Ductwork:
AC ducts are very important when it comes to saving energy on your home. Animals like rats, raccoons, ect. can find a way in if your attic is not properly sealed. They can chew through ducts leaving large holes while creating air leaks and water leaks that eventually will damage your insulation and create mold. We recommend to use hanger straps if possible.
Entry Point:
Your attic should be completely sealed, one of the most common areas that animals can use to get access to your attic is the soffit or through any roof edge that is either broken or missing. Rats, mice, or squirrels can gain access to your attic through a gap as small as 1/4''. Another
possible entry point for animals can be any gap around your roof vent cover.
Comfort Zone:
When you insulte your attic correctly, it lowers the cost of the energy in your home. Heat travels, in the winter it moves out and in the summer it flows into your home. The proper amount of insulation in your attic reduces this airflow and saves energy when it comes to heating and cooling your home.
Can you put too much insulation in your attic?
If you over-insulate your attic too much can cause moisture buildup and eventually can result in mold. Also when you don't insulate your attic correctly and adding too much insulation can lead to diminishing returns in trapping the heat.
How much insulation should I have in my attic?
In Florida the average recommended level is between 10 to 14 inches. R-Value is used to measure the insulation ability to resist the heat flow. The higher the R-value the better the performance.
Is R-30 insulation good for my attic?
It all depends on where do you live and what part of your home you decide to insulate (walls, crawlspace, attic. etc.) in Florida we typically recommend to R-13 to R-23 while R-30 to R-38 for attics.
